Growing out a Short Haircut

Shortly after I was married in 2011, I decided to make a drastic hair change.  Never bothered too much with styling, I wanted something that would be SUPER easy during my student-teaching and regular teaching.  Short hair was the ticket (plus I was always curious to see if I could pull it off) so why not hop in with both feet?!

For most of my life my hair has been in the long (lower shoulder blade length) to the shoulder grazing bob.  Nothing too daring for me.  However, it was time to be bold!  My longest hairs were 3 inches and the back was buzzed short.  I LOVED IT!  In the morning, all it took was a quick finger comb with goop and boom done.

The thing with short hair is that it requires upkeep...regular haircuts.  How I didn't think of that, who knows.   In light of the unforeseen maintenance, I started growing it out.  See the picture documenting below.

From short do, to flipped out, to sleek & womanly, to sassy pants, to awkward little boy in March, until it reached chin length August 9 months post-haircut.  And the last picture was from yesterday...collarbone length.

It grew out much quicker than I anticipated because I've had roughly the same length for the past 4 months.  I really enjoyed the constant changing from one style to another...It was almost weekly that another phase would hit.  Most grow out phases were great (aside from March Madness ;) ) and a trim of the bangs would freshen things up.  The grow out was just as fun as the initial haircut!

As for my current goals on the hair front...I'm looking to keep growing it out (as long as I can stay away from cute pinterest cuts).  Frills for Thrills, the blog written by the lovely Sarah who is a fellow Pacific Northwesterner, caught my attention recently as I was searching the web for inspiration.  Aside from great writing and fashion sense, she has amazing hair.  I mean...aaah maze ing.  With her permission, I wanted to show you the length I am hoping towards...we shall see if I make it that far.

So long shorties and straighteners.  Hello air drying and braids!
