DIY: Color Wheel

Create a beautiful color wheel!
As I was searching the wonderful internet for a download-able color wheel template, I could not find any to my liking.  This was a dilemma as color theory is approaching next quarter, and I was hoping to find an attractive template for them to fill.  If you've discovered this to be true (although tastes vary, but I do enjoy my newly crafted color wheel), join me in creating a color wheel.

Color Wheel Template
Old magazines
Scrap paper (for tracing)

Step 1: Print off your color wheel.
Step 2: Label, label, label! It reading like this top to the right: red, red orange, orange, yellow orange, yellow, yellow green, green, blue green, blue, blue violet, violet, red violet. (I wrote inside the circles)
Step 3: Start searching those magazines!  I found all but three colors in one magazine, the blue violet, violet, and red violet took a third magazine.
Step 4: Trace, from the template, one large circle onto your scrap paper.  Cut out and use to cut from the magazine.
Step 5: Assemble on your color wheel, and glue in place!
Step 6: Use the medium set of circles for tints of the color above (tint: color plus white/a lighter version)
Step 7: Use the smallest set of circles for shades of the color above (shade: color plus black/a darker version)

  1. I am not sure if you are indeed following my blog but I am following yours and I love the picture of the beach from yesterdays

  2. This is a great idea for a color wheel. Thanks for sharing this.
